For my birthday weekend it was my idea to visit St. Ursanne, a lovely town about a half hour drive away. We’d been there in our first year for the medieval festival that takes place every July, but not since then.
The town was much quieter than during the festival, without many shops or other sights, and it was too hot to do much hiking. We enjoyed ice cream and a drink and the quiet atmosphere — at least, away from the main road and its motorcycle traffic.
Hope you enjoyed this glimpse as well!
This is lovely! When my brother was stationed in Rome, I so enjoyed visiting and having him say as we ate breakfast, “Today we are going to drive to a delightful medieval town . . . .” I am planning a trip with my mother in the spring. Unfortunately, we will not get to Switzerland but we are going to Bruges, which she has wanted to do since reading Dorothy Dunnett’s Niccolo books.
How wonderful, enjoy!
I love that you call your post a “postcard” and enjoyed the photos!
Now I should write some poems to go with them…
What lovely photographs – thank you for sharing them!
Wish you all could be here, but I’m happy to share the beauty this way.
absolutely beautiful, especially the interior of the restored church!
I didn’t take pictures of the Baroque additions which I find hideous, but the medieval parts are lovely.
The pictures look lovely. The quiet European villages is one of the reasons I would like to go to Europe one day.
They are so picturesque, I do hope you get to visit.
Looks like it was lovely weather for a weekend trip! When I see photos like this, I often think “I can’t believe people live out their daily lives here.”
Haha,, so true! Hopefully they appreciate it.
