When italki made it possible for teachers to create a podcast and share it on the platform, I jumped in. I’d been thinking for a while about creating a podcast for English learners, based on excerpts from real literature in English — starting with poems that I’ve collected, but eventually including prose works as well. I wanted to share the beauty and artistry of our wonderful language with learners, in a way that they could understand, without always dumbing it down in abridged and altered “graded reader” versions.
So I made three episodes based on poems by three of my vary favorite American poets: Walt Whitman, Emily Dickinson, and Robert Frost. (I’m sticking to public domain works to avoid copyright issues.) I had a lot of fun doing this, but I have not had the time to make any more episodes lately. I do hope to do some more in the future.
I’ve also shared these on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I’d be so grateful if any of you who are so inclined would give them a listen, and let me know what you think! I would love to have some feedback as to what works well or what I might improve. A rating or review on iTunes would also be great in helping to increase my reach.
Thanks for your support, and I hope you’ll enjoy the podcast.
What an interesting way to approach the subject! I look forward to having a bit of time to sit down and listen.
That would be lovely, thanks!
This is an amazing project to begin, Lory! I’m impressed!
Thanks! I did have fun doing it … the question is whether anybody actually wants to listen! We’ll find out.
Congrats on your new project!
Thanks so much!
What a great idea! I’ve subscribed and will listen when I get a chance.
Oh thanks, hope you like it.
