Christmas

O see the sun
At midnight’s toll;
Set stone on stone
In barren soil.
Earth turns toward darkness now,
And death seems all our fate —
Yet every end knows how
Beginning lies in wait.

Above shall ring the song
Of love’s eternal birth;
Below, build safe and strong
A home for peace on earth.
The sun’s sure glow
In deepest night
Weaves through our woe
Divine delight.

(A very free translation of a verse by Rudolf Steiner)

Mathias Grunewald, Concert of Angels and Nativity, 1515

  1. Hope you enjoy your Christmas in the land of lakes and mountains and relative sanity, and may the coming year provide all that you hope for. Fröhliche Weihnachten / Buon Natale / Joyeux Noël!
